Welcome to LifeSavers United ("we," "us," or "our"). We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the responsible handling of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect the personal data you provide when you interact with our website (https://lifesaversunited.org), WhatsApp group, social media platforms, or any other service we offer in support of our blood donation mission.

By using our services, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

A. From Blood Request Submissions (Patients or Their Representatives)

When you submit a blood request through our website, WhatsApp group, or other channels, we may collect the following personal information:

  • Full name of the patient
  • Age or date of birth
  • Blood group (e.g., A+, O-, etc.)
  • Contact number(s)
  • Hospital name and location
  • Medical condition (e.g., "liver disease," "blood cancer")
  • Number of blood units required
  • Any additional details necessary to facilitate urgent donor matching

This information is collected to broadcast urgent requests to potential donors and coordinate life-saving assistance.

B. From Blood Donors

When you register as a donor or respond to a request, we may collect:

  • Full name
  • Contact number
  • Blood group
  • Location (city or region)
  • Availability status (e.g., "willing to donate," "temporarily ineligible")
  • Donation history (e.g., number of past donations)

This data helps us build a responsive donor network and match donors with compatible recipients quickly.

C. Automatically Collected Data

When you visit our website, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring website or source
  • Device information

We use this data to improve site functionality and user experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To broadcast urgent blood requests across our website, WhatsApp group, and social media platforms to locate compatible donors.
  • To connect patients or their families directly with willing donors.
  • To maintain and update our donor and patient databases for faster response in future emergencies.
  • To verify donor eligibility and compatibility.
  • To send follow-up communications (e.g., confirmation of donor match, thank-you messages).
  • To improve our services, response times, and platform usability.
  • To comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests from public authorities.

3. Sharing of Personal Information

LifeSavers United is a community-driven emergency response platform. As such, certain personal information particularly from blood requests is intentionally shared publicly to maximize the chances of finding a donor quickly. Specifically:

Patient details (name, age, blood group, contact number, hospital, and medical need) may be posted on:

  • Our public website (https://lifesaversunited.org)
  • Official social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter)
  • WhatsApp broadcast groups (accessible only to verified members)

Donor contact information is not publicly posted but may be shared directly with the patient or their representative once a match is confirmed and consent is implied through participation.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.

However, we may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in response to a verified emergency where disclosure is necessary to save a life.

4. Data Storage and Security

All personal data collected is stored in a secure digital database with access restricted to authorized volunteers and administrators of LifeSavers United.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Password-protected systems
  • Role-based access controls
  • Regular data backups
  • Encryption of sensitive communications where feasible

While we strive to protect your information, please note that no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. By using our services, you acknowledge this inherent risk.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

Patient request data is typically retained for up to 6 months after the request is resolved, unless the patient or family requests earlier deletion.

Donor data is retained indefinitely unless the donor requests removal, to support future emergency matching. Donors may opt out at any time (see Section 7).

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information.
  • Deletion: Request removal of your data from our database.
  • Opt-out: Withdraw consent to be contacted or listed as a donor.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at: [email protected] (or your designated contact email).

We will respond to all legitimate requests within 14 business days.

Note: If you withdraw donor information, you may no longer receive donation requests. If a patient withdraws a request, we will make reasonable efforts to remove the post from public channels, though we cannot guarantee removal from screenshots or third-party shares.

7. Third-Party Links and Services

Our website or social media may contain links to third-party sites (e.g., hospital websites, government health portals). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies separately.

We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies for behavioral advertising.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The "Last Updated" date at the top will indicate when revisions were made. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
